The birth of the DENON brand

Denon's involvement with moving coil cartridges dates back to the 1930s when they were engaged in a joint R&D effort with NHK to produce a high performance and high reliability cartridge for broadcast use. The legendary DL-103 moving coil phono cartridge was introduced in 1963, which became one of the longest running products in audio history. The DL-103, still used by broadcasters and audiophiles, spawned the development of outstanding MC cartridges that continue to be an indispensable component for music lovers, audiophiles, recording studios, sound professionals and musicians today. The special edition shown here is no longer available.

The Denon DL-103 phono cartridge is the only moving coil cartridge that has withstood the test of time. Developed by Denon in collaboration with the Japan Broadcasting Corporation Technical Research Laboratories as a high-performance, high-reliability phono cartridge for broadcasting purposes, the Denon DL-103 has been in continuous production since 1963. While other "wonder" cartridges have come and gone, the Denon DL-103 continues to thrive by offering musical rightness. There is no other cartridge that comes close to its legacy. The Denon DL-103 phono cartridge has been in use for a long time in public and commercial AM and FM broadcasting stations. It was used by EMI and Decca as their reference for evaluating LP sound quality. It's been evaluated, reviewed and praised by many publications and end-users. It's been around for over 40 years. Along the way, it has captured the hearts and minds of technical experts, audiophiles and music lovers. It's a testament that greatness endures. This is what comes with your ownership of a Denon DL-103. It is a phono cartridge that you will enjoy for a very long time.

The Denon DL-110 DL 110 DL110 phono cartridge was designed to enable more people to enjoy the exquisite sound quality of moving coil (MC) cartridges. Developed using Denon's state of the art MC cartridge manufacturing know-how, the Denon DL-110 DL110 is a moving coil cartridge capable of producing a high output of 1.6 mV which is equivalent to the output of Moving Magnet (MM) phono cartridges. The Denon DL-110 phono cartridge can thus be directly connected the MM phono input of your amplifier or receiver without the need for a step-up transformer, head amplifier or pre-preamp.

The Denon DL-110 DL 110 DL110 phono cartridge uses a special elliptical stylus with a rectangular cross section of 0.1 x 0.2 mm. It reaches deep into the record groove to extract detail while bypassing groove wall beaten and shorn by age, misuse and misalignment. You'll probably be surprised by how quiet your LPs sound.

Proper setup is very important with the Denon DL-110 phono cartridge. Take the time to get it right and you'll be rewarded with its naturally sweet tonal balance, ambience, quick transient response, and exquisite articulation. If you've been wondering why many have been captivated by moving coils, the Denon DL-110 will offer you many positive reasons why.

DL-102 Mono LP   245.95

The DL-102 is a true monophonic output moving coil cartridge designed for monophonic recordings as well as the monophonic playback of stereo recordings.
It has been used by NHK and other commercial broadcasting corporations for many years in the past and has been receiving great reviews for its high performance and sound quality.

This is a remarkable cartridge as it is true mono with a singe coil that only responds to lateral modulation.  Other mono cartridges, often costing far more, are simply stereo (it's easer in production) with the two coils wired in phase, this doesn't eliminate a lot of the noise or cancel out warp as effectively as designing it right in the first place.  Even if your amplifier or phonostage has a mono switch, it will often simply parallel the two channels to make the same sound out of both speakers, giving the illusion of mono, but not eliminating vertical modulation and other noise.  The world's best mono cartridges are revered, and the Denon is too.  It is based on a very old design and hence big and heavy, but with a modern twist  applied to the windings, the suspension and the stylus.
